Why Pray?

The creator of heaven and earth the one who gave us all life, the great (I am) wants to have a relationship with you. In fact that is why he created us, he created us to fellowship with him.

When God created Adam and Eve he walked and talked with them both in the cool of the day in the Garden of Eden. God gave them one rule, but they both disobeyed and hid from God, that caused a separation between them. A separation between God and man kind took place. We have inherited
sin from Adam.

In order for us to get right with God we need to acknowledge God in our lives, to walk with him and share in our joys and struggles, in fact he knows them all already but he does not push himself on anyone, he pursues us but waits for us to make the first move. He makes himself available all the time.

When should we pray?

Prayer does not need to be complicated, it should be like having a conversation with your best friend, actually it’s better than that. When we pray we are actively and intentionally in relationship with God.

We can pray all day or whenever we have a moment of quiet time, in our car, before the day begins with your morning coffee, at the end of the day etc. Whatever time works for you. But it’s vital that you continue each day in prayer. So that you don’t separate from God again.

Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

You could pray solo and you could pray with a group of other believers as well. It is so powerful to pray together.

Matthew 18:20

20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Jesus gives us a
template for prayer

In the Book of Matthew, one of Jesus’ disciples asks Jesus how should
we pray and Jesus gives us a template to use.

Matthew 6:9-13

“This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

personalize it

We can personalize this prayer. Just take note of what the example is telling us. We must Place God first, give him absolute respect and authority, let his will be done on earth as it is in heaven, let his kingdom come.

Daily bread

When Jesus says give us this day our daily bread it actually does not have anything to do with food, it means his word found in the bible, we need it daily. Lead us not into temptation, surrender to his will daily and you will not be tempted, however this is a process sometimes we have to surrender constantly during the day to his will. Being obedient to God is not easy and he knows that, that is exactly why we need to be in relationship with him so that he can guide us and correct us when we fail. Gods grace is renewed daily.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Deliver us from evil

We can go to God to deliver us from evil when we ask him. This may take time and we may not know what is evil in our lives. Pray about it and ask him. He will lead you, God is all powerful and when we choose to trust him with our lives, he gives us authority over the devil so we
can boldly say “get behind me satan, not today not ever!” and the
devil will flee.

Forgiveness

This may be difficult for a lot of us, and again God knows this so it’s important to share our weaknesses with God so that with the help of the Holy Spirt we can overcome this difficult task. Do not worry he is with you wherever you go.

Matthew 14-16

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

A gentle reminder

With all his mercy and grace we must also be aware that his grace period will one day end.

According to the Bible, we live in the age of grace. God is withholding his judgment because he does not want anyone to perish. But someday the period of grace will be over and it will be time to “pay the fine” for the wages of sin. During this age of grace, we have to acknowledge our sins to God and put our faith in Jesus Christ, who has already taken the punishment on himself. But if we die without receiving Christ as Saviour, or if he returns and we’ve rejected him, the “grace period” will be over and we will be judged for our sin.

Ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and for him to be your Lord & Saviour.

Love you all, I pray and hope that
this post has blessed you.
