The Bible is not just a book

It is God’s word, it is God. The Bible is alive, and when we engage with it, we can hear from God.

things to consider

  • Posture is so important when reading the bible, so position yourself to hear from God, devout time out of your day to read God’s word, with expectation to hear from God. Praying before you read is a good way to be intentional. Be proactive and set an alarm to spend time with God in silence, in the morning before you start your day, in the car or bus on the way to work. Installing the bible app is a great way to have his word right in your phone. This might be a challenge because we have so many distractions and obligations in our lives, but it is worth it to hear from God, he wants to share revelations, mysteries, instructions, confirmations etc his goodness is limitless.

  • Start with one book of the bible and focus on that one. Read it once then read it again and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you so that you may understand what you are reading. The purpose of this is to get to know God, to know what he thinks of you and what his character is, the more you know God the more you will know what is of God and what is not of God. You will be able to know what is true and what is a lie.

  • With the world turning to lies from the devil more and more it is crucial to say yes to what God is calling you to do. There is something that you hold that no one else has that God can use, if only you would step into your purpose, and the only way to know what your purpose is, is to read God’s word and through prayer. Live a life completely surrendered to God and his perfect will for you, because his ways are greater than our ways.

Beginners

The Bible is so rich and yes it can be very overwhelming. A few years ago I had no idea how to read my bible, but here is what the Holy Spirit led me to do. He first pointed me to the New Testament, I didn’t know if that was correct, but that is where I started. I later found out that, the new testament is a great place to start. It will help you understand the old testament better.

I have found that the more I read and study the more I get to know God. This along with prayer is golden. In the lords prayer we learn about the bread of life which is God’s word, we need it daily. So it really is important to stay in the word, for your
own nourishment of your soul.

32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

- John 6:32-33
