For God So Loved the World
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
- John 3:16-21
So what exactly is
the Gospel?
Well the word Gospel actually means Good News, However in order to believe or understand the good news, you must understand the bad news.
So here is the bad news: We are all sinners, if this is the first time you’ve heard this I’m sorry if it makes you upset, but it’s true. There is a divine reason you have stumbled on this blog. Without the Gospel we don’t realize our condition and our need for a saviour. You see it all started with a lie in the Garden of Eden… hmm perhaps that’s going too far, I think I will post about creation and the fall in the near future, but for now let’s just focus on the
Gospel message.
We are all sinners not one of us is perfect, we all fall short of God’s glory.
In today’s world we all have very strong opinions, and sometimes we can be blinded by what culture tells us we are, which has become extremely selfish and dark. When God is far from our lives, we tend to create our own version of who God is and what is right and wrong, however the bible says we all fall short of the glory of God. I know it’s hard to think of yourself as a sinner but If you ask God with a sincere heart, you’ll find that he will bring certain things back to your memory, spend sometime truly thinking deeply about that and come to God with a sincere humble heart and then repent from those sins. It will be hard once you are confronted with your sins, but just remember that God did not come to condemn the world but to set it free. Meaning, that once we are aware of our sins we tend to condemn ourselves but God says clearly in John 3:17; “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
Knowing this is such a gift because it opens our hearts up to receiving the free gift of what God accomplished on the cross for all of us no matter our backgrounds. The wages or price of sin is death according to Gods word. Jesus is God in the flesh, born from a virgin he came to earth to set us all free from our sins, and to grant us everlasting life.
After Jesus was crucified on the cross, he was resurrected! can we just pause on this for a second… wow! on the third day he defeating death. Meaning we too can have eternal life if we acknowledge our sin and our NEED for a saviour. Once we accept the truth and we repent of our sins, God’s redemptive blood, that he shed on the cross for us all washes away all of our sins as if they did not happen. We are made new, we are a new creation, we are born again.
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” John 3:3
This is a free gift that we accept with repentance and faith.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32
